As a major in the department of physics, astronomy and geophysics, you'll have many excellent opportunities to study away.
We recommend that students who are considering either a SATA (Study Away /Teach Away) program or a semester abroad consult their department adviser early in their sophomore year in addition to consulting the staff in the Office of Study Away about the many College-approved study-abroad programs. Working out what courses can, and need to, be taken to complete the physics major or one of its concentrations while abroad can make the study away experience successful as well as exciting and educationally rewarding.
Many of our students also have the opportunity to travel to national professional society meetings and to present their research. Students have attended the annual or semi-annual meetings of the American Physical Society, The American Association of Physics Teachers, the American Geophysical Union, the American Astronomical Society and the National Conferences on Undergraduate Research. Some others have traveled to Paris, Moscow or Switzerland to attend international meetings and present their work.
