Chemistry Department plans fall seminar series

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College Department of Chemistry is hosting a series of five fall seminars. All will be held in Brown Auditorium's Hale Laboratory at 4:30 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

The seminar schedule is as follows:

- Sept. 15, "Biomimetic Catalysis in Organic Synthesis," by Scott Miller, the Irénée du Pont Professor of Chemistry at Yale University. This seminar is sponsored by Organic Syntheses, Inc.

- Sept. 22, "Sea Spray from a Molecular Point of View," by Ephraim Woods III, assistant professor of chemistry at Colgate University.

- Sept. 29, "Thermal Chemistry of Monocyclic Vinycyclobutanes," by John Baldwin, distinguished professor of chemistry at Syracuse University.

- Oct. 13, "The Synthesis of Carbohydrate-Porphyrin Conjugates 'Carbophyrins´ 'ia Palladium Catalyzed Cross Coupling Approach," by Nicole Snyder, assistant professor of chemistry at Hamilton University.

- Nov. 3, "The Chemistry of Mercury at the Sea-Air Interface and its Importance in the Global Mercury Cycle," by Robert Mason, professor of marine sciences at the University of Connecticut at Avery Point.
