Connecticut College's Jan. 23 event to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Connecticut College community will gather Jan. 23 to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with dance, poetry and musical performances by students, faculty and staff. This annual event, which this year is themed "Seeds of Hope," is at 4 p.m. in Evans Hall at Connecticut College. It is free and open to the public.

Also during the ceremony, the college's second annual Dr. Martin Luther King Service Awards will be presented to staff, faculty and students who uphold the legacy of Dr. King's work with a commitment to social justice and service to underrepresented communities.

Connecticut College has traditionally scheduled campus events commemorating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. after the federal holiday. This ensures students who were off-campus during winter break can attend, and also gives the college an opportunity to more closely integrate the King commemoration with the variety of events planned at the college for February's Black History Month.
