Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical at Connecticut

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Forty years after HAIR first brought sex, drugs, peace and love to Broadway, 12 Connecticut College students are doing it all over again. Weeks from its Broadway revival, HAIR will make its way to Connecticut College Feb. 26 - 28 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 28 - March 1 at 2 p.m. in Tansill Theatre.

HAIR is the story of a politically active "tribe" of bohemian friends living in New York City during the time of the Vietnam War. Following an off-Broadway run in 1967, the show hit Broadway in 1968, and even opened in London. HAIR defined the rock musical genre and became the mouthpiece of a generation. The musical's profanity, depiction of illegal drug use, sexuality and irreverence for the American flag created legend and controversy. The show was made into a film in 1979 and will soon begin its Broadway revival in March 2009.

HAIR's Book and Lyrics are by Gerome Ragni and James Rado with music by Galt MacDermot. This show is directed by Peter Deffet with musical direction by William Thomas.

Tickets for the Connecticut College production of HAIR are $12 for the general public and $8 for students. The show contains nudity. For tickets and information call (860) 439-ARTS (2787).
