Latino Heritage Month Convocation

Connecticut College will kick off its celebration of Latino Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) with a convocation on Monday, Sept. 19, at 7 p.m. in the 1941 Room of the College Center at Crozier-Williams.

"Exploring Latino Identity: Diversity, Integrity & Honor" will feature three speakers: Elizabeth Ramos '12, Gabriela Lopez '15 and Liana Guzman '05, co-chair of the programming subcommittee of the College's Alumni Board. Guzman is a brand manager at Axiom, a 600-person new model law firm with offices in the U.S., Hong Kong and London.

In 2007, she co-founded The Pink Agenda, a nonprofit committed to raising money for breast cancer care and research and awareness of the disease among young professionals. In less than five years, the organization has raised nearly half a million dollars and has affiliates in New York City, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. Guzman hopes to show that fun and philanthropy are not mutually exclusive nor the sole purview of older generations.

The Latino Heritage Month convocation is sponsored by Alumni Relations, the Center for the Comparative Study of Race and Ethnicity (CCSRE) and Race and Ethnicity Programs at Unity House.
