Ten members of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship women’s soccer team are among the 52 Connecticut College student-athletes selected to the conference’s 2014 Fall All-Academic Team. To be honored, a student-athlete must have reached sophomore academic standing and be a varsity letter winner with a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.35. A transfer student must have completed one year of study at the institution.

Senior central midfielder Astrid Kempainen helped the Camels capture their first NESCAC Team Championship this season en route to being named the NESCAC Women’s Soccer Player of the Year. Kempainen tallied 20 points with a league-best 10 assists during her senior campaign, while three of her five goals on the season were game-winning markers.

Kempainen’s teammate Grace Bilodeau, a senior forward, was also honored on the squad. Bilodeau, a French major who studied in France last spring, notched three goals and three assists on the season.

Also on the All-Academic Team are men’s soccer player Daniel Sandoval ’15, a 2014 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar; field hockey co-captain and central midfielder Heidi Halsted ’15, who was named to the 2014 Longstreth/ National Field Hockey Coaches Association All-New England West Region Second Team; all three captains of the men’s cross country team; and 15 members of the women’s cross country team.

“We are very proud of the accomplishments of our student athletes, on the field and in the classroom,” said Fran Shields, the Katherine Wenk Christoffers '45 Director of Athletics and Chair of Physical Education.
