Four alumni inducted into Athletic Hall of Fame

Four exemplary former student-athletes, including two All-American swimmers, a top-ranked tennis star and a goal-scoring hockey defender, were recently inducted into the Connecticut College Athletic Hall of Fame.

Created in 1989, the Athletic Hall of Fame honors those who have brought distinction to themselves and Connecticut College through their achievement, commitment, sportsmanship and leadership in athletics. The Athletic Hall of Fame gallery is located in the Charles B. Luce Field House.

The Hall of Fame class is:

Grant Moryan '10

Men’s Swimming

Moryan was a key member of the Connecticut College men's swimming class that vaulted the program onto the national scene. In addition to becoming the program's first-ever NESCAC champion in an individual event, winning the 50-yard freestyle in 2007, he was awarded NCAA All-America honors with his teammates by placing sixth at the NCAA Championships in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2009. Additionally, the freestyle swimmer was a five-time NCAA All-America Honorable Mention selection. Moryan finished his career with eight Connecticut College records, including three individual and five relay records, and was a 13-time All-NESCAC selection and a four-time conference champion. A history and American studies double major at Conn, Moryan is pursuing a career in finance. He is also an avid runner; he completed the New York City Marathon in 2018.

Rand Pecknold '90, '93 MAT

Men’s Hockey

Pecknold excelled as a defender while leading the Connecticut College men's ice hockey program to a combined record of 48-22-2 over three seasons. He most notably set single-season school records for goals (17) and points (47) by a defenseman during his senior campaign, earning All-ECAC South First Team and Division III All-New England honors. Pecknold helped propel the Camels to the ECAC South semifinals in 1988 and 1989 and the conference title in 1990. After earning a bachelor's degree in economics and a master's in teaching from Conn, Pecknold has become one of the most successful men's ice hockey coaches at the NCAA Division I level as head coach at Quinnipiac University. He has been recognized as the Spencer Penrose National Coach of the Year, College Hockey News National Coach of the Year, AHCA National Coach of the Year, and the ECAC Hockey Tim Taylor Coach of the Year. Pecknold has also coached with USA Hockey at the IIHF World Championships.

Beret Remak '07

Women’s Tennis

The most distinguished student-athlete in the history of Conn’s women's tennis program, Remak competed in the NCAA Championship tournament in singles action three times and was recognized as an NCAA All-American in both 2006 and 2007. Ranked as high as fifth nationally and first in New England, she advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals and was named the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Northeast Region Senior Player of the Year. Remak was also a two-time All-NESCAC First Team selection, a recipient of Conn’s prestigious Anita L. DeFrantz Award, and she was voted to the 2007 ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American Women's At-Large Team for academic and athletic excellence. Since graduating with a degree in kinesthetic science and psychology, she has been traveling around the world as a producer in HBO’s sports department. She has won numerous Sports Emmy Awards for her efforts with both HBO and for NBC's coverage of the Olympic Games.

Patrick Troy '10

Men’s Swimming

Troy, a teammate of Moryan’s, was also central to the success of the men’s swimming program. Specializing in the butterfly and sprints, he was a two-time NCAA All-American as well as a five-time NCAA All-America Honorable Mention selection. He was a 16-time all-conference honoree who earned the NESCAC Four-Year High Point Swimmer Award for accumulating the most points at the annual championship meet between 2007 and 2010. He finished his career as a school record holder in eight events. Moryan, who majored in economics and geophysics at Connecticut College, earned a master's degree in geoscience from the University of Pennsylvania and is a licensed professional geologist in New Hampshire, where he works as an environmental consultant.
