Conn announces plans to advance anti-racist education

In the midst of a powerful national movement calling for action to address systemic racism in America, Connecticut College President Katherine Bergeron and the College’s senior administrative team wrote a letter to the College community, announcing a number of measures the College will be taking to ensure it fully lives up to its commitment to equity and inclusion.

These new efforts focus on the areas of campus safety and law enforcement, teaching and learning, and climate; they further build on the College’s 2019 Equity and Inclusion Action Plan.

A new curricular requirement for students, required professional development for staff and faculty, resources for anti-racist education, collaboration with local community leaders and institutions to promote greater understanding and awareness of racial inequity are a few examples of the many actions that will be included in the College’s plan moving forward.

“This historic moment will not reward bystanders,” the letter states. “It calls for action. Action is at the heart of our mission at Connecticut College: to educate students to put the liberal arts into action as citizens of a global society.”
