onStage at Connecticut College 2016-2017 season
Audiences can look forward to another stellar collection of performances during the 2016-17 season of onStage at Connecticut College.
“Our 2016-17 season is filled with world-class music, theater and dance, presented by artists from a wide array of cultural and creative backgrounds and perspectives. It is unique, eclectic and innovative programming designed to entertain and inspire. And you won’t find anything else like it in the region,” said Robert Richter ‘82, Director of Arts Programming.

The Civilians - ‘The Undertaking’
The Civilians’ new work of investigative theater, “The Undertaking,” premieres at Connecticut College before its New York run. Obie Award-winning The Civilians create new theater from creative investigations into the most vital questions of the present. This work explores the “Near
Death Experience”; when someone goes to the beyond and back and can then tell us what’s there on the other side, and more importantly what it really might mean to be alive.

Maceo Parker
Saxophonist Maceo Parker embodies the legacy of soul and funk music like no other musician can. Always at the forefront, Parker has been a common thread in the history of funk — helping to pioneer the sound of the genre in collaborations alongside seminal icons like James Brown, George Clinton and Prince, all the while honing his own signature brand of showmanship. Leading his flawlessly tight band with a cool confidence, Maceo transports audiences to the slickest of eras in performances that are positively timeless. The Seattle Times calls Parker a “hurricane” because he gets “everybody swaying out of his or her seat.”

Rennie Harris Puremovement
Rennie Harris Puremovement launches its 25th Anniversary Living History Tour in New England. The company presents more than just a performance; it is a whole body experience. As the longest existing hip hop dance company worldwide, Harris’s works are exquisite and not to be missed.

Ethel with Robert Mirabal: ‘The River’
This contemporary string quartet is continuing a deeply successful six-year collaboration inspired by ceremonies dedicated to the sun. ETHEL and Robert Mirabal, a Native American musician, instrument builder and three-time GRAMMY® Award winner, present their next evolution of the cross-cultural concert experience inspired by water. The audience will be immersed in a flow of music, narrative and ritual, evoking timeless Native American traditions through contemporary musical artistry.

SITI Company — ‘ROOM’
Directed by Anne Bogart Adapted by Jocelyn Clarke
SITI Company is a seven-time Obie Award-winning theater company with a history of innovative work. They are dedicated to creating and touring bold new productions. This season, SITI returns to Connecticut College with their production “Room,” a solo tour de force based on Virginia Woolf’s writings. Woolf wrote with delicacy, humor, anger, outrage and passion from the point of view of a highly creative woman in the first half of the twentieth century. “Room” is drawn from a lifetime of writing and traces the movement of a creative spirit in exquisite crisis.

Matt Haimovitz, cello
‘The Bach Suites: A Moveable Feast’
The acclaimed cellist Matt Haimovitz performs Bach’s “Suites for Unaccompanied Cello,” which are known to be some of the “most moving and spiritual pieces for solo instrumentalists to date.” His performances have inspired thousands since he made his professional debut at the age of 13 as soloist with Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic. He has gone on to perform on the world’s most esteemed stages. His performance is one not to be missed.
